Synagogues Lost to Time in the East Village - a Walking Tour - POSTPONED UNTIL 2023

  • Meet in front of Russ & Daughters shop 179 East Houston Street New York, NY, 10002 United States (map)

When we think of the East Village, what comes to mind now is a neighborhood filled with restaurants offering varied ethnic foods, bars, community gardens, a Gangster Museum and a host of small theaters. Originally considered part of the Lower East Side, there used to be about four dozen synagogue dotting the area.

Come on a walking tour with us as we contrast the past to the present while wandering the streets of the East Village. With your guide, Urban Historian Barry Feldman you will visit the location of several former Jewish religious sites as he recreates the landscape of the East Village of yesteryear. Explore a community garden that is paved with relics of a former synagogue, and pending availability, we will enter one of these synagogues that survived, and is still active.

This tour lasts a little over 2 hours with a significant amount of walking, and we tour RAIN OR SHINE.

In order to enable you to hear the guide, we will be using an app for smart phones. Bring earphones for your cell.

The price of this tour is $29 for Adults, $27 for Seniors, and $25 for students . Tickets are an additional $3PP on the day of the tour -pending availability .
